HTTPS Filtering Now Integrated into WebTitan

The latest release of WebTitan´s web filtering solution has a number of new features – including advanced HTTPS filtering for sites using SSL inspection.

WebTitan 5.00 allows IT administrators to easily monitor, control, and protect online users, and permits the creation of acceptable use policies that further safeguard your healthcare organization. The web filtering solution has been re-engineered to provide improved functionality, speed, and scalability; and – with the SSL inspection feature – now enables the blocking of individual pages on HTTPS websites that breach acceptable use policies.

As more and more websites default to HTTPS and become SSL-enabled, the need to be able to analyze encrypted SSL traffic has become critical. With the SSL inspection feature enabled in WebTitan 5.0, in addition to filtering HTTPS URLs, the content is decrypted, examined, and – if acceptable – re-encrypted and forwarded to the client. This enables administrators to decrypt SSL traffic for specific domains and scan it for policy compliance and the presence of malware.

In addition to SSL inspection, the latest release of WebTitan includes a new module with a redesigned reporting database and policy engine. The module provides a 360-degree view of browsing activity throughout the healthcare organization to eliminate risks from malware, ransomware and other viruses. With the new policy engine, IT departments can block access to websites harboring risks and containing non-work-related content that are in breach of the organization´s acceptable use policy.

The improvements in WebTitan 5.0 reflect the increasing challenge of web-borne threats to the healthcare industry. Although most healthcare organizations have defenses in place to protect their mainframe systems, many fail to account for the weakest link in their security network – their employees. Without web filtering, a single inadvertent click can lead to a breach of PHI or the infiltration of your organization.

Gartner estimates that by the end of the year, 50% of small and midsize businesses will have been successfully attacked through the Internet. Complimentary research shows that over 80% of network infections and cyber thefts are the result of an employee visiting malicious websites. WebTitan 5.0 enables healthcare organizations to monitor, control and manage web browsing activity in order to protect the organization and its data.
