Maternal Fetal Associates, a Virginia-based medical group of maternal fetal medicine specialists, has announced the practice has recently completed Compliancy Group’s Six Stage Implementation Program and has been confirmed as compliant with the HIPAA Privacy, Security, Breach Notification and Omnibus Rules and the requirements of the HITECH Act.

Maternal Fetal Associates’ perinatologists serve women experiencing high risk pregnancies in the Greater Washington metropolitan area and work closely with patients’ obstetricians to develop a care plan specific to each patient’s needs. The perinatologists help patients manage medical conditions that can cause complications with pregnancies, such as diabetes, hypertension, multiple gestation, and recurrent Pregnancy Loss. Maternal Fetal Associates also performs a range of prenatal diagnostic procedures such as specialized fetal ultrasound, fetal echocardiography, amniocentesis, genetic screening and testing, and tests of fetal wellbeing.

As a HIPAA covered entity, Maternal Fetal Associates is required to comply with the HIPAA Rules. To ensure that all requirements of HIPAA were being met, Maternal Fetal Associates sought assistance from Compliancy Group.

Compliancy Group’s HIPAA compliance coaches worked closely with Maternal Fetal Associates and guided them through the HIPAA compliance process, with Maternal Fetal Associates tracking progress toward compliance using Compliancy Group’s proprietary software solution, The Guard. After successfully completing that process and Compliancy Group’s 6-stage risk analysis and remediation process, Compliancy Group’s HIPAA subject matter experts verified Maternal Fetal Associates was HIPAA compliant and had implemented an effective HIPAA compliance program.

Maternal Fetal Associates was awarded the HIPAA Seal of Compliance, which demonstrates to its patients that the medical group is committed to compliance and has implemented all appropriate safeguards to ensure the personal and protected health information of patients is safeguarded at all times and privacy is assured.
