The Houston, TX-based debt collection agency, Specialized Collection Systems, has recently demonstrated compliance with all appropriate provisions of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
Healthcare organizations often use collections agencies to recover unpaid medical bills. In order to provide those services, collection agencies need to be provided with protected health information, which means they are classed as business associates under HIPAA and must take steps to ensure the privacy and security of any data they are provided.
To ensure compliance with the HIPAA Rules, Specialized Collection Systems partnered with Compliancy Group and used its tried and tested HIPAA compliance process to ensure compliance with all required elements of the HIPAA Rules. The journey toward compliance was tracked using Compliancy Group’s proprietary compliance tracking software solution – The Guard – with assistance on that journey provided by Compliancy’s Group’s compliance coaches.
After completing that journey, which included a 6-stage risk analysis and remediation process, Compliancy Group’s HIPAA compliance experts assessed Specialized Collection Systems’ good faith effort toward HIPAA compliance and verified the company had implemented an effective HIPAA compliance program and was adhering to the necessary regulatory standards of the HIPAA Privacy Rule, Security Rule, Breach Notification Rule, Omnibus Rule, and the HITECH Act.
Compliancy Group awarded Specialized Collection Systems the HIPAA Seal of Compliance, which demonstrates to current and future clients the commitment of Specialized Collection Systems to the privacy and security of protected health information and also helps the company differentiate its services.
